DANCE
African Dances are largely participatory – it is a game-changer.
Dancing to the rhythm of the African beat is a demonstration of the power of music and the many different unique styles of African dance. You lose yourself to dance; after all, dance is an expression of your individuality and also a form of story-telling in honour to our history. It brings harmony by way of stories, songs and poetry in true African style. In some strange way, education, tradition and national pride marries as an integral celebration to our emotional strength and historical journey. Like an artist, you paint, sketch and mould a form of physical and social education as an awareness of their own bodies while also strengthening muscle quality, breathing capacity and an increase in confidence.
This is a golden opportunity to explore the physical form as a creative tool in a way that benefits creative expression and movement. As part of their learning, it provides the chance for performances eventually, and also an allowance of time for composition, choreography and improvisation.
