ADMISSION POLICY

 This admission policy must be read in conjunction with:

 

Ø      The SA Schools Act of 1996

Ø      The Provincial Gazette Extraordinary #5136 of 16 May 1997

Ø      The Provincial Gazette Extraordinary #5212 of 9 December 1997

Ø      The Government Gazette #18480

Ø      The Sun Valley Primary School Constitution

 

1.                 Learners may be enrolled at 5 years turning 6 by 30 June.  Preference will be given to learners who turn 7 during their Grade 1 year. The learner’s age should not exceed his Grade plus 6 for admission.

 

2.                 The class size should not exceed 32 learners.

 

3.                 The learner should have completed a Reception year at a recognised Pre-School. The Pre-School Principal must sign the application form.

 

4.                 The age of the learner should not exceed two years above or below the chronological average age of the Grade.

 

5.                 The learner should be a resident in Sun Valley/Fish Hoek/Noordhoek area.

 

6.                 Learners with siblings currently at Sun Valley Primary School should enjoy preference.

 

7.                 Sun Valley Primary reserves the right to interview prospective learners.

 

8.                 A Teaching and Learning Equipment fee will be charged to guarantee enrolment. The fee will cover most stationery and textbook requirement for the academic year. 

 

9.                  Parents must agree to pay the school fees as per the resolution adopted by a majority of parents attending the Annual General meetings in accordance with the Sun Valley Primary School Constitution.  Both parents must indicate their agreement by signing the enrolment form.  In the case of divorced/separated parents, it is the responsibility of the parent applying at the school to obtain a signed copy of the enrolment form from their divorced/separated partner.

 

10.               The school budgets for Welfare Grants from the income.  This Grant is made available  by a Welfare Committee after perusing detailed documents  completed by the parents.  The State does not fund Welfare cases.


 

A Point System is used to select students for the available positions at our school.

The applicant has a sibling who is currently a student at Sun Valley Primary School or Silvermine Academy -The High School

Local Erf Status:
The applicant lives in the immediate feeder vicinity (IFV) of Sun Valley Primary School.
Sun Valley, Hazelwood Park
Wyngate Heights, Milkwood Park, Sunnydale
Faerie Knowe
Noordhoek, The Lakes, Dassenberg, San Michele
Silverglades, Fish Hoek (west of Riverside Road), Fish Hoek Mountainside, west of Quarry Road.
A rates account should accompany the application as proof of residential address.

Direct Feeder Pre-School:
The applicant will/is attending an approved Feeder Pre-School for Sun Valley Primary.
Approved Direct Feeder-Pre-Schools (DFS):
Sunbeam, Right Start, Greenacres, Fledglings, God’s Little Lighthouse, Milkwood, Gwen Goy, Fish Hoek Pre-Primary. Hazelwood

A direct Feeder Pre-School is a school that is professionally linked to Sun Valley Primary School, attends in-service professional training and participates in the annual Pre-School promotion programme.

Other approved Pre-Schools (AS):
Water’s Edge (Simon’s Town), Pixie Patch (Kommetjie), Kommetjie Pre-Primary School.
These schools have the status of a Direct Feeder Pre-School, but are out of the Direct Feeder Area.

Enrolment 24PLUS:
The applicant lodged their application 24 months or more before commencing school.
